Who We Are
The Handmaids of the Lord (HOLD) is a renewal and support ministry of Couples for Christ (CFC) for mature women called to personal conversion, evangelization, and service. HOLD provides a faith community where women, regardless of life circumstance, are formed to grow in holiness and live out their God-given dignity and mission.
HOLD serves women in various life circumstances, including single mothers (excluding minors), widows, separated, divorced or annulled women, unmarried mature women, married women whose husbands are unable or unwilling to participate in CFC, migrant workers and wives of overseas workers, and women deprived of liberty (in detention). Through prayer, formation, and fellowship, Handmaids are strengthened to bring their families and fellow women to a renewed life in the Lord and to serve the poor and marginalized.
Founded on June 18, 1993, HOLD draws inspiration from Mary, forming women of faith, humility, and servant leadership in alignment with the CFC mission of building the Church of the home and the Church of the poor.

Mission
Women in the Holy Spirit, joyfully proclaiming the greatness and glory of God as Mary did, by living out her fiat: “I am the Handmaid of the Lord, may it be done to me according to your word,” in selfless love and discipleship.
The Character of a True Handmaid
Handmaids are BEAUTIFUL
RADIANT IN BEAUTY. The CFC Handmaid of the Lord finds her joy and identity in the truth that she is a beloved daughter of the King of Kings, created in the image of her Heavenly Father. Rooted in this identity, she radiates true beauty—not merely in appearance, but in thought, word, and action, marked by faith, dignity, and love. Seeing the world through God’s eyes, she cherishes the beauty in others and in creation, caring for them and gently leading others to do the same.
Handmaids are JOYFUL
CHOOSING JOY. The challenges and difficult moments in a woman’s life are many and varied, yet the CFC Handmaid of the Lord chooses joy rooted not in circumstance, but in her trust in God’s providence. She rests in the quiet assurance that the Lord knows her needs and will care for her in His perfect time. Like the Blessed Mother, she endures with gentle strength, pondering all things in her heart and remaining confident that God is her refuge, freeing her from fear and worry.
Handmaids are VIBRANT
FUELED BY THE SPIRIT. Though women may not always be defined by physical strength, the Handmaids of the Lord possess a deep and abiding strength that flows from the Holy Spirit. This inner power fills them with joy, enthusiasm, and perseverance, enabling them to serve and lead with vibrant faith. Drawing strength from their personal relationship with God and from life-giving communion with one another, Handmaids move forward with courage and purpose.
Handmaids are PRAYERFUL
ARMED WITH PRAYERS. As Alfred Lord Tennyson wrote, “More things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of,” and this truth is lived out by the CFC Handmaids of the Lord. Armed with prayer—through the Rosary, meditation, and contemplation—and with hearts that constantly cry out to the Father, Handmaids place their trust not in their own strength but in God’s power. They believe with conviction that many of life’s greatest victories are won not in struggle alone, but in humble surrender on one’s knees.
