CFC MILESTONES | 1986

A year later, in 1986, it appeared the prophecy was slowly unfolding. Couples for Christ was spreading to various areas of the country. The establishment of CFC in India served as a launching pad for the spread of CFC in other countries. And the interest spread to Hong Kong. India and Hong Kong were the first two countries. But they would not be the last.
As the year drew to a close, CFC upheld the belief that participating in political processes is a way of living out one’s Christian faith and encouraged its members to take part in the Philippines’ snap elections. CFC also responded to the call to join the EDSA People Power Revolution.

Early that year, CFC held its first Leaders’ Assembly to equip its leaders with the spiritual guidance and direction needed for the work ahead. Around 150 leaders attended, making it a forerunner of what is now known as the International Leaders’ Conference (ILC). During that year’s anniversary, Bishop Ted Bacani honored the men and women of CFC who continue to spread the Gospel with their heart, mind, and strength.
CFC MILESTONES | 1988

The seventh year anniversary of Couples for Christ in 1988 was held at the University of Life (ULTRA) sports complex in Pasig. In attendance were 2000 members, double the attendance of the previous year. The community continued to grow. By the end of the 1980s, CFC was already present in 26 provinces.
CFC MILESTONES | 1989

CFC leaders began to lay out the plan for its new thrust: Rapid, Massive, and Global Evangelization. Even before it was formally introduced, many leaders observed that this movement was already taking shape within the community. Members were increasingly eager and willing to go on mission, offering their time and service in different places around the world. CFC also established four official parish ministries: 1) Outreach to the Poor; 2) Biblical Apostolate; 3) Outreach to the Young Single Men and Women; 4) Marriage Preparation. These ministries provided structured avenues for members to live out the mission and respond concretely to the needs of the Church.
CFC MILESTONES | 1990

CFC used the model of Tahanan ng Panginoon (TNP) as a template to give pastoral and logistical support to the poor. CFC started TNP in Bagong Silang, Novaliches, and Santa Maria della Strada Parish, Loyola Heights with a total of 41 couples. TNP was also started in Pineda, Pasig. Teams were organized to serve in the depressed areas within their neigborhood, organized the residents, conducted CLPs for those interested, held once-a-month teachings on various livelihood and other topics, and generally engaged in a proactive and interactive relationship with them. The ultimate goal was to empower residents to grow into a lively, self-sufficient, and socially aware community.
Stay tuned as we continue to share our story—our history, growth, and God’s faithfulness—as we journey toward our 45th year as one family.
